Army Deployed "Operation Python Dance" To South East To Stop Biafra Agitatots

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Tukur Buratai, has ordered the immediate deployment of troops to South East states of the country to stop violent agitations for the sovereign state of biafra.
LEADERSHIP Weekend gathered that already, military hardware and other armaments have been moved to the region for the operation which has been codenamed ‘Operation Ogbu Eke II, meaning ‘Operation Python Dance’ in English.
It was further gathered that the operation aimed at checkmating criminals, violent agitators and other forms of criminalities in the South East will last between September 15 and October 14 this year.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja yesterday, the Chief of Training and Operations, Major General David Ahmadu, said the Chief of Army Staff has asked men and officers of the Nigerian Army to be more serious in the operation.
Operation Python Dance was launched between November 27 and December 27, 2016 in the South East to combat kidnapping, armed banditry and other crimes.
Ahmadu noted that the second phase of the operation will involve show of force to deal with suspected criminals.
He said, “The operation will also focus on raids, cordon and search, patrol road blocks. The aim of the first phase of the operation was to effectively contain kidnapping and other vices common in the South East during Yuletide.
“The effect of that exercise yielded tremendous results and law abiding citizens celebrated 2016 Christmas in safer environment than what it used to be. Building on this achievements, exercise Ogbu eke II has become more expedient due to spate of assassinations, even in religious places, attacks on security personnel and theft of weapons, kidnapping, armed banditry, violent agitations by secessionist groups, among other crimes that have recently bedeviled the region.
“The need for troops to be refreshed and imbibe the requisite skills, to cope with these emerging security challenges within the 82 Division area of responsibility in aid of civil authority necessitated this exercise”.
Ahmadu disclosed that the operation will be in force in Enugu, Imo, Anambra, Abia and Ebonyi States and the Army has promised that the fundamental human rights of the people will be protected during the exercise.
He continued: “Additionally, exercise Ogbu Eke II has been conceptualised to transit into real time operations, thereby fulfilling both training and operational objectives of sharpening operation skills of personnel, as well as provide avenue to conduct operations against violent criminals and agitators, when called upon. A Brigade Headquarters would be established in each of five South East states. People should not get panic because their safety is sure”.
